IIT Kharagpur will launch MBBS with one hundred seats
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will start its MBBS programme from 2024
The institute’s statement on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 mentioned that IIT Kharagpur is initiating a new dimension of its multidisciplinary by starting the MBBS programme in Medicine at the B C Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology.
However, IIT Kharagpur’s MBBS programme maybe is somewhat different from the regular MBBS course as more technology will be incorporated into the syllabus. The students will be taught both Engineering and technology with an emphasis on Medicine. While the programme is still being designed, the institute is still waiting for the NOD from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare along with the National Medical Commission (NMC) said an official source to the media recently.
IIT Kharagpur has plans to set up 100 seats for the MBBS students.
A committee has been formed for designing and implementation of the MBBS programme where students will acquire knowledge not only on medical sciences but also on the basic sciences, Engineering and technology.
Students will be admitted to the course through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) UG. The institute aims to launch the programme keeping in view the requirement for more medical education seats in the country.
Apart from this, the prestigious institution will introduce a dual degree program where students will be able to do BTech and MTech courses simultaneously. Also, the institute will begin a four-year bachelor’s degree program in science.
IIT-K has even set up an international student office, which is making efforts to increase the admission of international students, Tewari added.
